3 Ole Miss iPhone Wallpapers

Posted by on Jan 6, 2009 in Ole Miss | 5 comments

Decided to add a few Ole Miss pics as wallpaper on my iPhone today.. Ended up, my decision was the easiest part…Locating the images, formatted correctly (ie. 320×480 pixels), was the bear. Cause very few exist. So I decided to create my own. Once I created’em, though, I kinda liked them, and thought others might like to use them too. So, they found their way here. 2 are from our own snapshot collection (thanks to Derek Moreton), and the other a stock University image (the Ole Miss helmet). (instructions on how to add to an...

94% Said We Couldn't … We Did

Posted by on Jan 2, 2009 in Ole Miss | 4 comments

Yes, I do love Oxford. And yes, I love my University. Right now, I’ll have to say, … I’m particularly in love with our football team. When Texas Tech jumped up by 14 in the first, I was concerned. When we tied it up, I saw the possibility. When we gained the lead, I saw our window. When we – slowly, methodically – wore them down, I realized we could do it. Actually, I always knew we could do it. Was simply a matter of putting it all together. And today we did. 94% of the polled public said we couldn’t do it....

Howorths' Featured in NYTimes

Posted by on Dec 26, 2008 in Oxford | 1 comment

Woke up this morning, wiped the daze from Xmas off my face (a good daze), and stumbled on a great NY Times piece on Oxford – which, if you remember, Rachel correctly alluded to a few weeks back. Actually, the article involves Oxford, but (more) centers on Mayor Howorth and his wife (and previous professor of mine) Lisa, and their contribution to the literary scene around town over the past several years.. The online article can be found here (although you have to register to read in its entirety) and an accompanying photo collection...

Dropping By the Beacon Restaurant

Posted by on Dec 7, 2008 in Uncategorized | 4 comments

If you’re looking for a place to eat flapjacks or a plate lunch and hang with the locals, then I have just the place for you: The Beacon Restaurant … a place you can nestle in a worn booth, drink coffee and mingle with the faithful Lions Club members. On many occasions during the holidays (growing up), my high school friends and I would meet there for a home-cooked breakfast and a little R & R. We’d sit down, reach for the menu (already on the table), and ask for bacon, eggs and coffee – a combination that many...

The Ghost of Oxford

Posted by on Dec 4, 2008 in Oxford | 6 comments

“The chance of a lifetime is to be yourself. Therefore, you have to go, Michael. Even if it’s a ghost of a chance.” A book was purchased called “Mr. Lincoln’s Camera Man: Matthew B. Brady” by Roy Meredith. It was given to me by a woman named Grace. Inside the front cover was written, June 2, 1990 Dearest Michael, The only reason I that I have inundated you with Civil War books is because I fully believe in your cosmic connection and attraction to that time, those people, and those events; I believe in your...

Thacker Mountain Radio, Live!

Thacker Mountain Radio has been a favorite among Oxford locals since its premiere more than ten years ago. A radio show dedicated to music, literature and dry wit, Thacker Mountain Radio features both nationally known writers and musicians, and is recorded live every Thursday at Off Square Books in Oxford, Miss. This week marked a special episode of Thacker Mountain – a fundraiser show to help fund next season’s shows. Hosted by Jim Dees, Thursday night’s show moved to the Lyric Theatre, and ended the season with a cash bar and its...
