Tom Franklin’s new novel Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter introduced me to a character that I will always remember, Larry Ott. I think the thing that defines a great book for me is a character (or characters) that I care about. If a book doesn’t have a character in it that I give a damn about, I’m not going to give a damn about the book. Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter made me care about Larry Ott. It’s one of those books that made me want to read it again as soon as I finished. The Washington Post has a...

I’m hearing great things about the video shot by Thad Lee at Vox’s noise show earlier this month at the Powerhouse. The pictures I saw the next day made me hate that I had missed it. Thanks Peter for the kind introduction. I look forward to being a part of OxfordMississippi.com, a site I’ve enjoyed for a while. Oxford is a special place, and this site has done a great job of pointing out the things that define it. This site actually was the first to cover my project Music in the Hall way back on November 8, 2008, two days after the first show. Most of my web contribution prior to this (oxfordmusicsnob.com and musicinthehall.com) has been focused on the music of Oxford and the surrounding region, so I look...

Howdy folks.. Thought I’d relay some small changes happening behind the scenes here at OxfordMississippi.com.. We’re happy to announce a changing of the guard.. Daniel Morrow of Music in the Hall is officially taking over publishing duties here at the site, and we couldn’t be more excited. Daniel has established himself as a key member of the Oxford community, and we’re happy to have him on board to continue our little big’ish publication. Our core focus won’t change, though. All Oxford, all the time. And...
