The Ava Hotel Update

Posted by on Jul 23, 2009 in Hotels - B&B's | 0 comments

When the announcement dropped in late 2006, it was a doozy. Oxford’s first boutique hotel, spa & condo development had been announced. A $25 million dollar project with a purported 100,000 square feet of space and located a half-mile from both Ole Miss & the Square. Upon completion in winter of 2007, it’d house 85 hotel rooms plus 16 condos. And to top it off, it’s location on Jackson Avenue was catty-corner to Star Liquor. Zing. If you drive by the location today, though, you’ll see Star Liquor, but you...

Big Bad Breakfast + Pulp Fiction = Comedy Gold

Posted by on Jul 18, 2009 in Videos | 1 comment

During the 2009 Oxford Film Festival, there were a few short films shot around town re-enacting diner scenes from blockbuster movies. I can easily say this one’s my favorite: Pulp Fiction diner scene, re-enacted by two kids in a booth at Big Bad Breakfast Uber props to Micah Ginn, Matthew Graves, and Joe York for producing; and to starring actors Claire Franklin and Jess...

Live @ Music in the Hall

Another packed house filled the hall last Thursday as Music In The Hall continued with its 5th “Episode.” The house band was comprised of local musicians Gin Gin Abraham (Double Date), Rosamond Posey (Rocket 88) , J.T. Lack (Mayhem String Band) and Max Williams (Kudzu Kings, George McConnell and the Nonchalants) who kicked off a three-song set with the Music In The Hall Theme Song. George McConnell and the Nonchalants followed the house band. McConnell, a Vicksburg native now residing in Oxford, has played in a variety of bands through...

Here are some quick team notes: Head Coach: Max Graupner Team President: Cody Johnson Home Games: played at Desoto Civic Center in Southaven First Game: 10/02/2009 – vs. Middle Tennessee State...

7 Unique, Odd, and Awful Ole Miss Accessories

Posted by on Jun 11, 2009 in Ole Miss | 2 comments

Ever take some time to troll through the Ole Miss Team Shop, University Sporting Goods, or Campus Bookmart? I mean, really troll through… ignoring the jerseys, the hats, the tshirts.. into the twilight zone of Ole Miss accessories for sale? I hadn’t. I usually stuck to hats, and/or bought an occasional sweatshirt from time to time. But today, I began to investigate further. Dig a little deeper. What else could I possibly purchase with our Ole Miss logo emblazoned upon it. What item could oddly and awkwardly place Colonel Reb in its...
