Oxford Art via Lorrie Drennan
In our continuing effort to highlight artists who cover the Oxford area, we’d like to introduce Lorrie Drennan. She’s a self-taught artist and a regular at the Double Decker festival each Spring. The pieces showcased below highlight Square Books, Ajax Diner, and the Courthouse. It’s also worth noting her work has previously covered sketches of Bottletree Bakery, Tailgating in the Grove, the Walk of Champions, the Lyceum, and Ventress Hall on the Ole Miss campus (for those who might be interested in expanding their art...

Pulling in, the slush of pea gravel greets you as you arrive at Puddin’ Place Bed & Breakfast. My greeting was a hair different, as I blatantly ignored good judgment and arrived without notice. While parked in their driveway, had to call and see if they’d be nice enough to let me poke around. (Luckily, they were) Normally, I’m much better prepared, but in this moment – driving by, reminding myself of a needed visit – my hands and legs decided, wisely, to step on the breaks and turn in. I commended them on...

About a year back, Morty and I visited BBB when it first opened. Market Rhes, the (wonderfully fantastic) gourmet market was next door, so we decided to drop by there for a visit as well. Mainly to grab a few shots, but also to talk shop with owner, Rhes Low. And then I screwed up. After we wrapped, I sat on the story too long. And crippled with this odd economy, Rhes decided to close up shop back in November of ’08. So rather than scrapping the piece, (and due to the fact that Rhes mentioned he’d consider a re-launch when the time...

Construction on the house originally began in 1836 by Judge J.M. Howry, who didn’t entirely complete the residence until after the Civil War. The house was later sold to Dr. Patrick Wright, who decided to remove all the front columns on the house in exchange for a porch. Later, his daughter would return the home to its original design (columns included). Regarding the landscape, most of the original trees surrounding the house were chopped down during the Civil War by Grant’s soldiers, and used for firewood when they camped on...

We recently launched a new section to OxfordMississippi.com and thought we’d make an in-formal announcement. The section? Webcams. 3 to be specific, all located at Lamar Blvd & University Ave, each facing North, East, & West. [UPDATE: We've now added two cameras located on the Ole Miss campus] Speaking to the northbound camera, here’s a neat snapshot I caught yesterday as Double Decker was ratcheting up.. Westbound even allows you to follow gas prices at the Chicken-on-a-stick Chevron. We’ve provided a permanent...
