Houston Nutt Fired As Coach of Ole Miss Rebels – Leave Comment For Coach Nutt Below

On Monday, November 7, 2007 Houston Nutt was fired as head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels. Since this is my website, I’m not going to go with the stats of Houston Nutt because he is being bashed enough as it is. There are a lot of fingers you can point and stats that you can come up with. The main thing you always hear is that Coach Nutt was not a great recruiter.

I had the pleasure of helping some of the Nutt administration purchase their homes when they came to Ole Miss and I can’t say enough good things about Nutt and his coaching staff’s character. Coach Michael Beaumont was one that I met and was very fond of. He came with Houston Nutt because Nutt insisted on him coming with him from Arkansas. Coach Beaumont had contagious energy and was able to motivate anyone. If you met him and Houston Nutt you knew that.

I know no one is questioning Houston Nutt’s character. I understand this. But through the midst of this difficult time that the Nutt administration and family are going through, I wanted to point out the good that Houston Nutt brought to the University of Mississippi. Coach Nutt is a strong christian and shows it day in and day out. The spotlight is always on him and everytime I have ever run into him he was always smiling and always positive. He did a lot for Ole Miss including giving a gift of $100,000 in 2009 that he split two ways to give to the indoor practice facility and to student-athlete scholarships. This to me shows total commitment to Ole Miss and that is one thing you always want in your coach…commitment to the program.

If you see Houston Nutt or his family around town, remember, we are Oxford. We are a town of class. Wish him well and thank him for giving a valiant effort.

I will be sending this on to the Nutt administration so if you would like, leave a comment below.

  1. Coach Nutt,

I think you did a great job as the head coach at Ole Miss, and I think that Pete Boone created an environment which hampered your ability to recruit. I’m glad to see him go, but I wish you’d been given more time after his departure. I’m sure you’ll be greeted with success anywhere you go, and I wish you nothing but the best of everything. Just promise me this: you won’t go to that school beneath us, that school which misspells simple words like “go” by adding x’s, and you won’t go to Auburn (still a little sore about Tuberville’s lies and betrayal). Thanks for everything, Coach. Maybe we’ll eventually get back to the Cotton Bowl.

    Happy trails,

  2. Mr. Nutt does not need to be coaching any more football games at Ole Miss. To my understanding, the point of being fired is to take a bow and exit. Please leave, please.

  3. Coach Nutt, I have heard you speak a couple times including a Promise Keepers event in Little Rock. I was thrilled when you were named head coach at UM. Im sorry it ended up this way. You are a great coach and I pray God continue to use you in the lives of these young men who need a strong Christian role model. Keep the faith brother. God bless you and your family.
