New Vaught Hemingway FieldTurf
For those not aware, the field at Vaught Hemingway Stadium is undergoing some changes. Our existing artificial turf, called AstroPlay, is being replaced by an alternate playing surface called FieldTurf. The difference between the two? The filler material mainly – AtroPlay uses ground up tires; FieldTurf uses ground up tires plus sand – and sand is supposedly the extra ingredient which allows the turf to feel more like natural grass. FieldTurf also boasts some amazing eco-friendly stats (which can be found on their site).
The entire $500k installation cost was covered by two anonymous Ole Miss donors, which is truly amazing to fathom, considering the economic climate we’re in right now..
We were able to drop by yesterday to catch a few shots of the field under construction.. Mid-field still shows the large ‘M’ logo plus ‘Rebels’ (which – as announced – will be replaced by one large ‘Ole Miss’ logo). We uncovered a short video from RebelVision as well, which is at the tail end of this post…
enjoy!
>> thank you Dr. Moreton for grabbing these shots!
