Stopping By Snackbar

snackbar-sign-smallWe had an opportunity – last night – to drop by recently opened Snackbar, John Currence’s newest entrance into the Oxford restaurant scene. Described as “French brasserie fare and the foods of the American South”, it’s also home to Oxford’s only raw bar, serving (among other things) a Currence favorite – Apalachacola Bay oysters.

The space is interestingly separated into two distinct levels, the lower providing table seating and raw bar, and upper featuring full bar, a communal table, and several booths. We sat at the communal table, and sampled the steamed jumbo gulf shrimp from the raw bar, as well as the charcuterie plate (and were darn pleased with both tasters).

Located next door to Big Bad Breakfast on North Lamar, there’s tons of parking for folks that venture over..

  1. I was there Wednesday night, and agree wholeheartedly! The raw bar is a great addition to Oxford.

      I’d suggest hitting they do a great job covering weekend events, as well as bands rolling through town..


  6. We were really disappointed with the food and the quantity. There is not anything good I can say about it except that the Shrimp appetizer was good. The waiter said that our choice of the Oysters/parmesan was not good and he was right. They tasted like stovetop stuffing mix over oysters and the oysters were NOT in the shell as expected. The pork dish was not bad, but scimpy and did not have much seasoning. Also the seating was too close and the table was small for two people. For the price of the food there just wasn’t much there and certainly nothing extra. There were no sides with either dish that we ate, not crackers with the shrimp, very little sauce, and no salads either. Our waiter was not even friendly. We have had great seafood in Lousiana, Florida, and Mississippi have eaten in almost every restaurant in Oxford and this is not going to one of our favorites. I was expecting much more.
