Mmm… Breakfast

I sit here, at my kitchen table fantasizing about what breakfast spot to hit tomorrow morning, all while realizing that I am probably not going to make it up early enough (Double Decker is tonight) and end up having to eat at Huddle House along with the rest of the college kids who have either rolled out of bed, or have yet to visit their houses from a night of partying. But I still sit here fantasizing and thinking, maybe next weekend I can hit one of these amazing spots. I mean, it’s not like I didn’t get to frequent one this very morning before the start of Double Decker.

I do love Oxford, but I will say that it does lack a good amount of breakfast hot spots, but I still picked a few and I will let you check them out and think what you will. It’s still Oxford, and it’s still amazing no matter what.

I would like to start with my typical breakfast spot, and this is really just a grab and go place and overall a great place to get the morning coffee. San Francisco Bread Company, overall not your typical family joint, still a great place to get an everything bagel and your favorite coffee, mine happens to be a White Chocolate Peppermint Mocha, and this is anytime of the year folks. Whoever said Peppermint is only for Christmas Season has never had one of these. To die for! Anyways, this is a very low key laid back joint where you can watch the news on the plasma screen TV or surf the internet with the computers San Fran supplies or your own laptop (they have wifi, but honestly who doesn’t, even McDonalds does nowadays).

Now just because I often frequent San Fran does not mean it’s my favorite. I would really have to say I have two favorites; it really depends on my mood. If I am in for a huge home-style breakfast, then The Beacon is the place. There you can get eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, waffles, bagels, and anything and everything else you have ever thought of for an amazing price. Honestly, every time I’ve gone, I’ve spent around 5 bucks, and been happy and full for the day. Amazing! The locals are in love with this place, and you can tell, as it’s always packed super early in the morning. If you are looking to get away from the college kids, then this is surely the place. It’s very loud, though so don’t plan on getting any work done on your computer, it’s just not the place.

My other favorite would be Bottle Tree Bakery. This is the greatest spot if you are a Danish, Muffin, or other baked goods type. They have amazing choices and they are always hot and fresh for the day. I love coming here, the blueberry muffins are absolutely scrumptious and it has the great location of being on The Square. So after grabbing your danish or muffin, you can take a walk around the Square and enjoy the beauty of Oxford. This is a little bit more pricey than the other two, but well worth it.

Hey, as I’ve always said, don’t take my word for it. Head out there and check em out yourself. If you live here in Oxford, then you may have already. If you are only here to spend the better 4 (or 5) years of your life, then you need to try these places! Even visitors to Oxford, need to get out and explore. Learn the town, start with breakfast. Until Then, Hoddy Toddy

  1. Ahhhh. Quite a delimma. And, like Chic-fil-A, The Beacon is not openon Sunday… or at least did not answer when we called to check.

I hear John Currence of City Grocery is opening a breakfast/lunch place soon.

Don’t forget Shipley’s Donuts or Popeyes.
